How to choose the right Swimsuit for YOU

What style you choose to wear is ultimately up to you, but whatever style you choose you want to feel comfortable and confident. We have put a few tips, Okay,  a lot of information,  together for you to consider when choosing your perfect swimsuit. You don't have to just stick to these but hopefully you find them helpful. In the end, its your style, and rules can be broken.

Colours - There are 4 factors to consider when choosing a colour. Your Skin Tone, the Depth of your skin Colour, Personalty, and Highlighting / Contouring.

Your Skin Tone - If you have warm skin tones naturally then go for colours that have a warm undertone. As most people have warm undertones and we choose colours that don't have strong cool undertones, nearly all of our colours will suit you. Even our Blues. Fake tan will also give you a warm tone, so you can choose from the warm undertone pallet with a fake tan on even if your naturally cool based.

Naturally cool skin undertones will look great with colours that have cool undertones, or more neutral,  such as Anchor/ Black, Seashell/White, Storm /Grey, Light Pink / Jellyfish, Majestic / Deep Purple, Urchin / Light Purple, Shoreline / Palest Pink, Pool / Baby Blue.

Depth of Skin Tone -  How dark your skin tone is will also be a factor in choosing colours that will compliment you. Your personal style will also come into this

Darker Skin Tones

Bright and Fun - Choose a colour that will stand out against your skin and pop, such as Lightning / Neon Yellow, Seaweed / Tie-dye Green, Seastar / Pink

Classic - Choose a colour that wont overpower you, but still has strength, such as  Anemone /Red, Majestic / Dark Purple, Maritime or Navy / Dark Blue.

Shy - Choose a colour that will compliment you without bringing too much attention such as Sand / Light Tan, Dune / Brown,

Medium Skin Tones

Bright and Fun - Choose a colour that will stand out against your skin and pop, such as Nemo / Neon Orange,  Ocean / Bright Blue

Classic - Choose a colour that wont overpower you, but still has strength, such as  Seadragon / Army Green, Buoy / Dark Orange, Seaglass / Green

Shy - Choose a colour that will compliment you without bringing too much attention such as Jetty / Red brown, Storm / Grey, Shoreline / Light Pink

Fair Skin Tones

Bright and Fun - Choose a colour that will stand out against your skin and pop, such as Lagoon / Aqua Green, Starfish /Neon Pink, Seahorse / Neon Green,

Classic - Choose a colour that wont overpower you, but still has strength, such as  Pool / Light Blue, Urchin / Light Purple, Marine /Aqua Blue,

Shy - Choose a colour that will compliment you without bringing too much attention such as ,Paradise / Coral, Seashell / White or Jellyfish / Light Pink, Seamist / Pale Blue Green,

Highlighting / Contouring - We all know Black, along with Dark Colours can be slimming, and Light or Bright Colours can enhance an area. This can be used in 2 ways. Mix and Match or using Negative/Positive space.

Mix and Match.- Try wearing a dark colour on the bottom and a bright colour on the top if you want to draw attention away from your lower half and focus on the top half. Great for girls with a pear shape. Or reverse it for girls with a bigger chest. Wear a darker colour on the Top and something bright and fun on the bottom 1/2.

Negative / Positive Space, - This is where our eyes focus on the area of space that stands out the most.  Choosing a bright colour can  be slimming as it draws the eye to the bikini rather then your skin around it. Choosing a dark colour can be slimming if it is a larger design, but if the design is smaller then it can draw attention to you rather then the swimwear and so not be as flattering as a bright colour. So don't always opt for Black!

Body Shape - Love your body the way it is, but here are some tips if you want to enhance or hide some bits.

You have a Smaller Chest - Wearing our Mermaid Bikini Top with the traditional Triangles on their side will suit you better then as a traditional triangle top. Play around with crossing the straps to add more details.Choose a colour that stands out. Our Deity Bikini, and Venus & Captain Swimsuits all have padding to give you a little boost.

You have a Fuller Chest - Comfort and support are just as important as looks here. Make sure your supported. Wearing our Mermaid Bikini Top as a traditional triangle and variations gives you more support and thicker straps so it doesn't cut into your neck /shoulders. Our Venus Swimsuit has nice wide adjustable straps that give support and comfort, All of our Swimwear that has padding is removable so you can opt in for a boost or remove if you wise, To take focus away from your chest, wear a brighter colour on the bottom.

You have a Shorter Torso- Stay away from high waisted designs,, smaller bikini styles will suit you better, or a 1 piece that has a low cleavage will work for you. We do not recommend crossing the bikini bottom strings around your waist as it will make your midsection look smaller. You can lengthen your torso by wearing a lower hip cut on the sides,.

You have a Longer Torso - Wrapping your strings around your body can look amazing on you, as well as high waisted and high hip designs.

You have Short Legs - To make your legs look longer you want to wear a 1 piece with high cut hips, or a bikini bottom that doesn't sit low at the sides. Keep your legs going all the way up to your hips or waist.

You have a Squarer /Rectangular body - This is where we want to minimise horizontal and vertical lines. Create as many Diagonal lines, Triangles and V shapes as possible. So get creative with how you tie your bikinis. For a 1 piece, check out our Venus Shapewear swimsuit, with a corset back to pull your waist in smaller.

You have a Pear Shape - You want to draw attention to the top 1/2 by choosing a brighter / lighter bikini top then the bottom. You can also add details to the top with crossing strings, or tying bows. While you might be tempted to wear a larger bikini bottom, this works when you choose a dark colour, if its a light colour it can actually make you look bigger then if you wore a small design. A smaller design can make your legs look longer and elongate your body.

You want to minimise your Tummy - One piece swimsuits can be great if your not confident having your stomach out. All of our 1 piece swimsuits are double lined fabric to hold you in nicely. Low cleavage and detail on top can draw our eye upwards. For Colours other then Black, Bikini bottoms and One piece Swimsuits, having detail or seams or straps across the stomach can break up the space and make it appear smaller. For bikini bottoms you want to make sure it doesn't cut in giving you a muffin top, but sits nicely to your shape. Sometimes a smaller design is better for a bikini bottom.

You want to enhance your Peach - To emphasise the curves of your booty wear a style such as our Island / scrunch bum, or Siren / Frilly Thong,

Cover Ups - Just not confident to have it all out at the beach, that's OK, We are currently working on some cool convertible designs to wear over your swimwear. We have also released our Swimwear shorts, check those out!

Personality - You need to choose swimwear that suits your personality and makes you feel confident. With confidence you can pull off any look !!! You get 1 body, 1 life, go out and enjoy it xx
